OUR FOCUS
The First Tee, Montgomery County uses golf as platform to teach young people how to be successful on and off the course. Focusing on youth who would not typically have access to the game and its opportunities, The First Tee helps its golfers learn how to use Respect, Perseverance, Honesty, Integrity, Courtesy, Responsibility, Sportsmanship, Confidence and Judgment in school, with adults and with their friends.
“To the world you might be just one person. But to one person, You just might be the world.” This year’s Pebble Beach Raffle winner is Mark Poluszny of Rockville, MD. The winning ticket number is 244. Thank you Mark and all of the other purchasers of raffle tickets—this fund raising effort netted over $36,000 for The First Tee.

Marilyn Praisner Memorial Golf Tournament In honor of the late Montgomery County Councilmember, Marilyn Praisner, The First Tee’s Fall Classic Golf Tournament has been renamed as The First Tee’s Marilyn Praisner Memorial Golf Tournament. Marilyn was a friend, advocate and mentor to the organization. The board of directors and staff cannot think of a better way to honor Marilyn than continue to grow The First Tee so that all the county’s young residents can learn and embrace the core values and enjoyment of golf.
The tournament will be Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at Laytonsville Golf Course. It is a shotgun start with prizes for first through third place, Hole-in-One, Longest Drive, Closet to the Pin and Putting Contest. Last year, prizes included, but were not limited to, gift certificates from Raspberry Falls Golf & Hunt Club, Blue Mash Golf Club, P.B. Dye Golf Course, Blacks Restaurant Group, Washington Nationals tickets, Urban BBQ and Bethesda Golf & Tennis.
Sponsorship opportunities are available. If your company or you are interested, please contact Laura Sildon at 240.447.4646.
